For years “The Quiet Man” stood in Flemington as a beacon to the old world of familiar Irish comforts, but now it’s evolved into two sublime venues under one roof and very much under the one flag.
Auntie Annie’s Hotel is the more casual half of the venue, while not our focus in this review, is a good to mention as it is culturally an important part of the whole. Here is where comfort food is served, Guinness on tap, music and good times. It has had a refresh and maintains the charm and magic.
Now to the main event. Enbarr. This was old world narrative driven flavours, seasonal ingredients, proudly elevated to the height of intuitive modern Irish cuisine.
This menu is proudly and deeply personal with echoes of the past and a clear vision of the future.
Even before you taste the food, before you have your first drink, the refinement of the ambience and clarity of the aesthetic is the perfect foreplay for what is to come.
The bar is fully stocked with a range of Irish favourites with a cocktail list of crafted gems. Expectedly Guinness is on tap, but other surprises are in store including Smithwick’s Red Ale, and a perfectly paired wine list.
The menu is wild and full of myth, story, legend and energy.
The Soda bread with caramelised onion and volcanic salt butter is a must.
Make sure you experience the 48 hour cured Salmon of Knowledge dish, also the Bull of Cooley is perfectly cooked beef with a Jameson and peppercorn jus.
Go and experience this for yourself and you’ll be back to eat your way through the menu and soak up what has been crafted. Enbarr is destination dining.
