Pearl - Ben Sorensen’s 60 Second Reviews

Writer's picture: Ben SorensenBen Sorensen

REVIEW:

This is another chapter from the twisted world of X... and it's quite the follow up. On a seemingly quaint country farm, during the Spanish flu epidemic, a young girl dreams of bigger things while being stuck in her hometown caring for her ill father living under the rule of her strict German mother. Pearl is artfully the intersection of temptation and repression - with some murderous consequences and quite the ending.

I love the purposeful cinematography, the unique thematic vibrancy of Technicolor and the immersive performances in this thoroughly well-made slasher/thriller flick.

Definitely one I’ll watch again.

PRESS RELEASE:

Filmmaker Ti West returns with another chapter from the twisted world of X, in this astonishing follow-up to the year’s most acclaimed horror film. Trapped on her family’s isolated farm, Pearl must tend to her ailing father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother. Lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies, Pearl finds her ambitions, temptations, and repressions all colliding in this stunning, technicolor-inspired origin story of X’s iconic villain.
